When you write magazine articles for a living, as I mostly do, you spend a lot of time tracking down and pestering experts in various fields. And you soon discover that the expert population distributes along the familiar bell shaped curve, with a few idiots, lots of knowledgeable but otherwise normal people, and a handful of folks who really get it. In banking, Institutional Risk Analyst’s Christopher Whalen is one of the latter. I’ve interviewed him several times over the past couple of years, and each time his insights and anecdotes ended up dominating the resulting article. The guy just knows more about the inner workings of the banking business than just about anyone else. 

So I happily post links on DollarCollapse to the articles that Whalen and his partners publish. Last week, while checking out their latest, I noticed an ad on the IRA home page that asked “How’s My Bank?” and directed readers to a just-introduced service through which IRA will, for a small fee, explain the hidden risks on individual banks’ balance sheets and income statements. In other words, if your bank is about to blow up, they'll tell you ahead of time. I emailed Chris and asked if IRA had an affiliate program that allows other websites to post IRA ads and share in the resulting revenues, and found out that they’d started one that very week. The result is the big yellow rectangle on the right side of this page.

I’ve don’t normally direct visitors to specific ads--and may never do it again--but this service is so timely that it’s worth highlighting.
