3 Sunday Morning Thoughts – July 26 Edition

Written by Bryan Lutz, Editor at Dollarcollapse.com:

I hope you’re having a restful Summer Sunday.

Here’s what we do.

Every Sunday I share a few thoughts with you, and other subscribers at Dollar Collapse.

Sometimes we’ll talk about economics, sometimes recent events, and other times, life.

Here are three thoughts for this morning:

1. Perpetual crisis is the new black. It’s everywhere, all-the-time. You can exit by positioning yourself while letting the chaos pass you by.

This week we drove up to the family cabin through the Canadian wild fires.

Which means, we passed through a valley of thick smoke with only 200 ft of visibility.

We drove by a person reporting two new small fires on the side of a mountain with her phone… And before that, filled up at a gas station with a small, smoky fire (the size of two BBQs) burning in a field beside it. We waited a few minutes with the kids to see the firetrucks pull up and dose the flames.

I couldn’t help but think about the parasitic lettuce story too, the screwworms attacking cattle in Southern Texas, and of course, the ever boding threat of China and AI.

Perpetual crisis is everywhere.

The best way to handle all this Fourth Turning style crises is not to try to keep up. That will wear you out, and eventually burn you out.

The best way is to position yourself before collapse and crisis. The same way a tree roots itself in the ground and it’s routes spread out to reach for nutrients in different directions, all around.

2. Scarce resources are profitable. Especially those companies that provide them where isn’t any at all. Like the last few weeks, let’s keep looking at water.

Picture a desert with no rivers.

Now picture millions of people who still expect a cold glass of water in the morning…

Many places in the Middle East, someone has to pull that water out of the sea. And in Dubai, that someone is the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

It doesn’t move like a growth stock. The share price today sits about where it listed back in 2022, which is no problem.

Because for this one, we’re looking for consistent income in times of uncertainty.

When DEWA went public in 2022, it locked in a fixed dividend, roughly 6.2 billion dirhams a year, and pays shareholders a 4.4% dividend like clockwork.

Underneath the income, the business keeps setting records.

Here’s the revenue:

It is a government-backed monopoly on the one thing nobody in a desert can refuse to buy…

Electrical services, yes, but also clean drinking water where none is generally available.

Scarce resources are profitable for the same reason gold never needed a growth story. Because scarcity is the moat. It’s simple, natural law.

3. Central Bank gold buying is a sign that points to the Great Reset. So, again, it’s all about positioning.

Since the Great Financial Crisis in 2008, a trend has reversed. Instead of Central Banks buying US Treasuries, and holding USDs as reserve currencies…

Central Banks have been buying gold. In fact, they are the biggest purchasers of gold globally.

The trend has been one big movement away from the US dollar. Because when Central Banks hold gold, they hold money that isn’t politically bound. Money that holds no allegiance like a reserve currency does. But…

Most everyday investors still don’t see it that way.

The trend for the average investor is that the US Dollar still rules, and gold is all about making and taking a profit. Just like the rest of the stock market. So the average investor sees the market as something to time…

Like a game to play rather than something to position yourself in AND out of. If you’re positioned properly, you won’t get caught up in waves of sentiment, in booms and busts, in the news cycle…

You have room to play the game as you see the movements happening, but for the most part you’re positioned and ready to preserve your wealth for whatever comes next.

And central bank gold buying is one of the biggest signs that “something next” is coming… Or as some have said, “the Great Reset” is coming soon.

  1. Yes, if Central banks are stacking gold with vigor in order to get out of the dollar, then we can assume that the USD Index will gradually fall to a new, permanently lower level.
