Bonobos Buy No Gold: How the US Dollar has helped to Create Docile, Dependent Men and Families

“Puritans, like poachers, shoot to kill your inner bonobo”

~ Susan Block, The Bonobo Way

Written by Bryan Lutz, Editor at Dollarcollapse.com:

Just south of the Congo River in Africa lies a hot, steamy, lush jungle paradise.

It is the home of the Bonobo monkey…

Only 2000 miles from the dry Ethiopian desert where the oldest human fossils have been found.

The environment provides safety and an abundance of vegetation, which the Bonobo eat all year round.

So there’s no need for the male Bonobo’s to protect or provide for their families (or for families to work together for survival either). Instead, the female’s rule the roost!

Matriarch’s pick their mate, or mates. Whatever they want really, even other females in their monkey tribe, while the men do the same…

(How’s that for some wild style, sixties free love?)

Bonobos keep the peace(and keep themselves busy) through pleasure.

Why did this happen?

Scientists believe the safe environment, full of abundant resources made the males docile. The only thing left for them to do was to seek pleasure and connect with each other “socially.”

Here’s how the US dollar’s done the same for the Western world:

Since 1971, the fiat-based US dollar has actually done the work of abundance and protection for its citizens and Western allies.

The Federal Reserve prints more dollars. So more money becomes available to businesses internally and the country prospers.

Externally, when more of the world’s reserve currency becomes available, it pushes the value of the US dollar lower, so the US can export more goods to beat competing countries.

For other countries to remain competitive, they’re either forced to run their country on dollars, or print more of their own currency to make exports cheaper.

That allows the US dollar to act as a protection mechanism…

Because printing more dollars has the benefit of making US exports more marketable, producing weapons and spending more cash on military is no real issue.

Instead, it actually becomes a benefit. The US spends more money on military “defense,” then they use it to position themselves (by force) for economic prosperity.

All that being said…

Has the almighty fiat-based, US dollar made us like the Bonobo?

Has it created artificial abundance?

Has it hedged a protective environment?

Has it made western men and women like the Bonobo?

Quite possibly, yes.

If you have dollars in a system that’s made you feel so confident, protected, and comfortable…

Why invest in real money (or hard assets) like gold?

Because the US dollar is there for you.

It’s only going to make your most valuable “asset,” your home, go up in price.

Which is what the banks tell you…

And why most people invest their life into an “agreement until death,” a mortgage.

It’s all part of the system that keeps us comfortable, protected, and confident.

There’s no need to buy gold…

when holding resources in your hands isn’t your main concern…

when you have nothing to hunt or gather for food, and you don’t have to defend against attackers…

and when you have no land to work…

Family need not work together for survival or prosperity.

The whole relationship of family gets confused.

Men and women get confused.

When protection and production are no longer centralized, or owned by the family unit, government-owned money fakes out family ties with fiat.

Your family is tied into a system instead of creating wealth for private ownership.

Then what you have are a bunch of Bonobos who buy no gold living in the comfortable pleasure of the world’s reserve currency.

  1. “Bonobos” is an apt comparison, I think, given not just their docile nature but also the outward appearance of so many lesser men we see roaming the streets these days, and in startling numbers.
