Thanksgiving Mackerels: FTX’s Sam Bankman-Fried Meets Prison’s Sound Money

Written by Bryan Lutz, editor at dollarcollapse.com:

“The mack currency system is far more stable than crypto.”

– Bill Baroni, a lawyer(prison consultant) who was convicted for his role in the New Jersey Bridgegate scandal

Even Genghis Khan, conquerer of the known world, the first to legalize silver currency, Mongol of mongols, could not have devised a more stable system than that of mackerels in the US Federal Prison system.

But those who are astute on their feet adapt to the currency quickly.

For example, the once angelic philanthropist, turned money-laundering crypto-fraudster, Sam Bankman-Fried.

He is now awaiting sentencing at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center in New York City where, since cigarettes got banned, “macks” are the currency of choice.

The Wall Street Journal reports:

Sam Bankman-Fried’s Life Behind Bars: Crypto Tips and Paying With Fish

Many inmates prefer to purchase food, as well as clothes and toiletries, through the Brooklyn jail’s commissary. A list of commissary items shows that peanut butter costs $4.15, a pair of sneakers are $79.95 and an MP3 player is $88.40. A pouch of mackerel fillets costs $1.30, up 30% from $1 in 2020.”

According to headlines yesterday, Bankman-Fried showed up to court with a more mature haircut having used four macks for the new dew.

Maybe he thinks a sharper haircut will make for lighter sentencing. Maybe he’s trying desperately to give himself some dignity now that he’s looking at 110 years or so in the slammer…

Picking up the currency system is doubtless something he’s attuned to over the past 20 years. I remember reading how he created “Bankmans,” fake bank notes in high school.

What’s the plan now…?

One wonders if he, like many inmates has taken advantage of the faithful donations of the Gideons set in every bedside hotel and prison drawer across the country.

Perhaps in reading the Holy Book, attempts to raise his own fish to the sky this Thanksgiving either in pretence or in good will.

In pretence, to create more “macks” ex nihilio.

In good will, to thank Yahweh (or whatever higher power he’s looking up to), that he’s finally met his match:

A sound money system that reinforces itself with beatdowns from local prison enforcers.

Sound money requires more than that though.

It must be stable as a medium of exchange, store of value, and a unit of account. All of which, macks allow for once allowances are converted to macks.

But I’m not sure if SBF has learned this valuable lesson on sound money. Word is that the Prison Guards are asking for tips and taking advice.

That should tell you three things…

If the Prison Guards are interested in investing in them… Bitcoin and crypto are on their way up. As is the rest of the market in its yearly cycle until late January.

Also, prison guards are investing in crypto and they’re taking advice from a billion dollar fraudster.

I can understand Bitcoin, Gold and even a percentage of capital allocated to the mackerel market this thanksgiving, but random, no-name cryptos? Nope.

Let’s hope Bankman Fried counts his blessings this Thanksgiving and finds some grounding in a place where he will most definitely need to develop some new skills.

Happy Thanksgiving and…

Thank God for mackerels.

Baroni, Wall Street Journal’s “prison consultant” says that:

“…when Bankman-Fried moves to a federal prison he will likely bring his mackerel packets with him.”
