Road Runner would zoom by being chased by Wile E. Coyote. Then Bugs Bunny would somehow end up in the frame just before the Coyote would fall to his doom…
Bugs roll out his carrot and the smart aleck question, “Ehhhh, What’s Up Doc?”
Well, America has a similar “Looney Tune” issue…
Some Americans can’t quite catch their meals, while others who aren’t part of scene… are eatin’ free.
After reaching $34 Trillion in Federal debt, Americans still need to pay for almost half a billion dollars to care for illegal immigrants.
More than 3.2 million illegal immigrants crossed the southern border last year. Many of them with significant diseases, migrants on dialysis or in need of heart surgery. Others are pregnant with no prenatal care.
From every hospital’s perspective they have a duty to care. They;re compelled to treat them.
So, the costs add up.
The Epoch Times reports:
Illegal Immigrants Leave US Hospitals With Billions in Unpaid Bills
“In January, CEO of Denver Health Donna Lynne told reporters that 8,000 illegal immigrants made roughly 20,000 visits to the city’s health system in 2023.
The total bill for uncompensated care costs last year to the system totaled $140 million, said Dane Roper, public information officer for Denver Health. More than $10 million of it was attributed to “care for new immigrants,” he told The Epoch Times…
..The total uncompensated costs in 2020 came to $60 million, Mr. Roper said. In 2022, the number doubled, hitting $120 million.”
While in Arizona…
“Dr. Robert Trenschel, CEO of the Yuma Regional Medical Center situated on the Arizona–Mexico border, said on average, illegal immigrants cost up to three times more in human resources to resolve their cases and provide a safe discharge…
..last year that illegal immigrants were overrunning healthcare services in his town, leaving the hospital with $26 million in unpaid medical bills in just 12 months.”
It gets worse.
In the State of California, which will soon implement a law giving free healthcare for all illegal immigrants, it’s looking to cost the state several billion per year.
“The law could cost taxpayers between $3 billion and $6 billion per year, according to recent estimates by state and federal lawmakers.”
So, here’s the question:
Is America’s democracy serving its citizens?
It may help to review a criticism some libertarians have with democracy. They say that because everyone has a vote, and everyone pays their taxes, citizens will attempt to get as much as they can from the system.
This leads to cronyism, or as more relevant example, the tendency for every citizen to please minorities. So laws are implemented to serve more minorities, and to implement those laws, taxes are increased.
In the case of illegal immigration, it’s worse.
It is similar to imagining you and your family sitting in a restaurant, finishing your dessert, your meal, or a glass of wine when another family quickly finishes their meal and makes a break for it.
The family’s long gone – down the street…!
Yet the waitress comes to your table and lays down the bill. To your surprise, they’ve tacked on an extra 15% to pay for those who choose to pull a dine N’ dash.
Even if the some libertarians are right about how democracy incentivizes some to take what they can get from their portion of the pie…
This illegal immigration issue in hospitals is far from that democratic assumption.
Far worse than Dine N’ Dash…
It’s Doc N’ Dash.
