Anyone who’s been paying attention in the West sees the results of our gender studies graduates. Paid protesters, non-profits leading the way in providing publicly-funded careers, and research papers on the importance of pansexual parrots. On the other hand, the United States is still producing excellent talent, but nothing like that of China.
China is on its way to almost doubling the amount PHD STEM graduates over the United States…
One more sign of the changing world order.
For years, the Chinese government has been pushing hard to fund research at their Universities passing US funding around 2018.
That funding has produced an overwhelming amount of work in scientific journals compared to the research in the West.
In fact, after 2020, Chinese work is now the pulling the top-cited research in the world’s top 1% of cited papers.
Among the most important research papers is work on artificial intelligence.
Science.org reports:
China tops the world in artificial intelligence publications, database analysis reveals
“China has taken a commanding lead in the exploding field of artificial intelligence (AI) research, despite U.S. restrictions on exporting key computing chips to its rival, finds a new report.
The analysis of the proprietary Dimensions database, released yesterday, finds that the number of AI-related research papers has grown from less than 8500 published in 2000 to more than 57,000 in 2024. In 2000, China-based scholars produced just 671 AI papers, but in 2024 their 23,695 AI-related publications topped the combined output of the United States (6378), the United Kingdom (2747), and the European Union (10,055).
“U.S. influence in AI research is declining, with China now dominating,” Daniel Hook, CEO of Digital Science, which owns the Dimensions database, writes in the report DeepSeek and the New Geopolitics of AI: China’s ascent to research pre-eminence in AI.”
As of 2022, China holds almost 1/3 more AI patents than the rest of the world combined.
China is now producing almost 50% of the worlds AI talent. Some of them return home. Others decide to stay in the United States.
If the US is stay the dominant country in the world, they will need to get to work on supporting education and AI talent development as much as they can.
